We are so glad you are here! Let me tell you a little bit about what we do here! First, I want to let everyone know that Head Start is way more than a preschool program. We take pride in providing services to the whole family. Whether it be helping you connect with a new dentist, or guiding you to the resources you need to go back to school, change jobs, or buy your first home. Our program knows that the success of the child is going to be dependent on the success of the family.  We are looking forward to partnering with you, as you are your child’s first and most important teacher.

Next, it is important for you to know that we are not a classroom, we are a school family! We follow the philosophy of Dr. Becky Baily and her program of Conscious Discipline.  The program, based in brain science, believes that children must feel both safe and connected in order to learn.  We view behavior as communication and see those instances of misbehavior as an opportunity to teach new skills. Our teachers are the safe keepers of the classroom, who have the weighty task of keeping their family safe and each student has the job of helping to keep it that way.

The next big thing about us is that we are play based. Children learn through play not through worksheets and lectures. We teach math by counting the blocks in our tower. We practice letters by making them with playdough, and science can be taught by exploring the dirt, mud, and worms while digging outside.

Lastly, I want to let you know that we see each child as an individual. We aim to provide the highest quality preschool services and meet each child’s needs. Sometimes that means that a child needs an extra hug after mom leaves for the day. Sometimes this means that we bring in harder puzzles to provide a challenge. This can also mean a referral to someone for some extra support. In any one of these or many other instance, our number one goal is to provide your child the tools they need to be successful here at Head Start and in their academic career.
